On 21 June 2014, a mass shooting took place at the 13th outpost of the 55th Regiment of the Republic of Korea Army's 22nd Infantry Division in Goseong County, Gangwon, South Korea. The perpetrator of the shooting was sergeant Lim Do-bin (Gook: 임도빈), and after committing the shooting, Lim deserted with a Daewoo K2 Rifle.
Background

He enlisted in 2012 and planned the crime out of anger over bullying within his unit and graffiti mocking him, which he experienced due to South Korea's strict conscription system. Immediately after returning from day guard duty, he threw grenades at fellow soldiers and fired a K2 rifle indiscriminately, killing five people, before deserting with his weapon. Subsequently, an alarm was issued in a nearby village, and while trapped in a military cordon, he attempted suicide but failed and was captured alive three days later.
