On 21 June 2014, a mass shooting took place at the 13th outpost of the 55th Regiment of the Republic of Korea Army's 22nd Infantry Division in Goseong County, Gangwon, South Korea. The perpetrator of the shooting was sergeant Lim Do-bin (Gook: 임도빈), and after committing the shooting, Lim deserted with a Daewoo K2 Rifle.

And true to their nature as StarCraft-loving Koreans, internet users criticizing Korea's backward military service system created a meme calling Sergeant lim "Lim Raynor."
He was sentenced to death at trial and is currently incarcerated in a military prison due to the fact that the death penalty has been effectively abolished in Korea.
