Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but is there a reason I am unable to replace an existing file (even one I uploaded) with a new one? Earlier I had to save a new version of File:Not_raped_original.jpg as PNG just to get it on here, though now I realise I fucked up and made half of the new image transparent, and need to replace it again.
Is this a case of user privileges, or is it actually impossible to overwrite files as the "Upload warning" seems to suggest? – NuclearDuckie 20:41, 1 January 2013 (EST)
User privileges. Only EDitors and sysops can overwrite files.
Well then, it'd be cool if someone could replace this with this at some point. – NuclearDuckie 00:04, 4 January 2013 (EST)
I got around a similar problem by uploading the file to another name, and then editing the file referencing the image. Would be a pain if the image is something linked from a large number of files though. Soylent Green 11:49, 4 January 2013 (EST)

Mediawiki API should be immediately disabled for all users who aren't in the bot or administrator group. Mike the Great (talk) 16:35, 2 January 2013 (EDT)
^^^emo detected^^^ ♥♥♥ 15:40, 2 January 2013 (EST)
Mmmm, "easier" would be a more apt description. You don't ~really~ need the Mediawiki API in order to construct automated web bots/tools, might make it ~easier~ for n00bs, but if someone really wanted to try and trash the system with bots that would hardly even slow them down at all. Also "editors" aren't just picked randomly/haphazardly, if someone is a genuine fuckup they're probably not gonna make it that far. And if they do fuckup their shit can be easily reverted regardless and their editor status stripped off, so again, not really much of a problem. And keeping the functionality for editor use will likely breed new/better tools and wiki-related apps that could greatly improve the site. --Onideus 18:19, 2 January 2013 (EST)
Speaking of which, the GreaseMonkey addon for Firefox/Chrome is pretty awesome as far as being able to easily create automated functionality and to even alter your personal view of a site:
The "unfriend finder" for FB is one of my favorites. It automatically keeps track of whenever someone unfriends you, gives you a notification and even keeps a database of past unfriends. There's others too that function similarly to Lazurus Form Recovery, that can automatically save everything you type, so if your browser crashes or something is baleeted you've got your own personal archive to fall back on to recover anything lost.
And again, you can also use all your own stuff. Like when my server was still up I had that PHP app I built that automatically interfaced with the DeviantArt site, could actively read the HTML and had rudimentary AI to discern and track user gallery content and could "sniff out" the absolute largest file sizes and automatically download, name and categorize them.
I also semi-recently released all the source code I had for the Lady Chatterly Web Bot, which included cross-protocol functionality, which can directly interact with HTTP, IRC, NNTP and various others as well as transfer data between them. And I know I'm not the only one to have released stuff like that, so basically what I'm saying is that the genie is effectively already out of the bottle. Blocking MediaWiki API functionality really isn't going to hinder someone from attempting to go that route if they're really dead set on trying...although, again, it would be effectively moot anyway since the system can automatically revert all changes from a specific user.
There is an http throttle, an edit throttle, and a captcha. API bypasses all of those. A web bot would not. Mike the Great (talk) 20:07, 2 January 2013 (EDT)
Like I said, easy...ER. There are no shortage of base level AI scripts that can easily bypass most captcha forms, which would allow a person to create a web bot that could create dozens, even hundreds or thousands of new accounts and then use them synergistically to get around any editing throttles and such. I think we've actually already seen some people ~try~ to do that as well.
I've seen several instances where there's like a dozen new user accounts created all at once, all with really similar usernames...they always get caught real quick though and banned, at the IP level, but even that wouldn't stop a sufficiently experienced programmer. For example if you combined a DDoS network in conjunction with such forms, you could effectively screw up any site in more directions than you can count, especially if it had sufficient AI capabilities.
At one point for example I created a web bot that could auto-regenerate posts that were deleted. So like if an admin attempted to remove something, the bot would randomly check and then regenerate the deleted post again and again and again and again. And if they tried banning the bot was setup to work off proxy lists and could create an infinite number of new e-mail addresses for account creation as I owned my own domain (you can make up any e-mail addy and they'll redirect to your base e-mail account). Often they would try and circumvent my bot by banning my entire domain name, which was effectively the only way to stop it. And even that was just laziness as I could have added functionality to create freebie e-mail accounts on ~other~ domains.
Some of my stuff was so effective that some sites would basically shut down all new user registration for months at a time just to try and hinder me, effectively resorting to "inbreeding" as I called it. So again, if someone ~really~ wants to try and fuck up the site and if they've got a sufficient enough level of programming skill and time/effort...yeah...there's very little that can actually stop them.
And in fact, utilizing the WikiMedia API would effectively become a viable means of stopping such potential acts. Basically fighting fire with fire, utilizing automated scripts and base level AI in order to combat such forms. So again, keeping the functionality for editors could potentially breed new tools and apps to help improve the site and PREVENT/CIRCUMVENT such attacks.
Mmmm, forgot to mention, there's also social engineering forms to get around captchas. Basically you trick n00bs into going to a site, promising them something, for example free movie downloads and in exchange all they need to do is "sign up", only when they do they're actually being tricked into creating an account on another server/site and effectively bypassing its captcha with a real person, sort of "live AI" if you will.
The api doesn't bypass anything. The same limits apply in the api as the web form. Although the only limits set up afaik is the http throttle and maybe an account creation throttle. And you cant create an account with the api. TKN 11:09, 3 January 2013 (EST)
Thanks for the clarification, that makes a lot more sense. It seemed a little ~odd~ that they would make it so easily exploitable, I mean that would sort of defeat the whole purpose. It makes sense that it would be fairly limited on the whole, otherwise you'd have Wikis being toppled over left and right. --Onideus 20:40, 3 January 2013 (EST)
It is that easily exploitable.. The captcha is a plugin, and only on the edit forms. Not the API. The http limit is sort of moot, as it's lax and only meant to prevent http request flood, not edit posts, and the edit rate throttle, $wgRateLimits is flat out not implemented. Mike the Great (talk) 01:46, 4 January 2013 (EDT)
What you're saying doesn't make a whole lot of sense...I mean, there's no captcha setup on edits as it is, at least not for "editors", and as TKN said, you can't create accounts with the API, and even if you did, they wouldn't be "editors", they would start off as unregistered users. So I don't see how the API could be used for...well, anything directly malicious.
At best, as it's operating server side, it ~might~ be possible to execute code that could overload the processor and crash the server...but that would be pretty unlikely since most modern server software has built in throttles to prevent that from happening irregardless...plus the Wiki software likely has its own limitations to prevent that from happening.
You could do a continuous flood of garbage edits...which would be entirely pointless since the entire flood could be undone with like...two clicks of the mouse...and then you'd lose your "editor" status and get booted. *shrugs* Plus TKN just said that the API has the exact same limits as the web form, that being the case, the API wouldn't be capable of doing anything more than just a standard run of the mill web bot could do.
I suppose maybe it ~might~ be possible to configure the thing in such an uber retarded way that it could be exploited, like purposefully going in and taking out all the default security measures/restrictions/limitations...but then who in their right mind would even do that? *shrugs* I gotta side with TKN, I just don't see how it could be abused in any meaningful/relevant way...nor have I ever even heard of ANY exploits that take advantage of the Wikimedia API in any manner whatsoever (I just checked, found all of zip, zero, nada).

The Indoctrination of ED
I've noticed recently that ED is starting to take some highly controversial opinions on the front page (e.g. promoting Aspberger's Syndrome in a positive light, along with brony-ism, Atheism, and just general faggotry). As a result of this, the site is starting to turn into the butt of its own jokes! We're not Uncyclopedia! We need to bring back the old xenophobic-but-with-facts-to-back-itself-up ED that used to exist. Just thought I'd bring this to the Admin's attention for them to think about when updating the front page. Codegenepool 19:42, 4 January 2013 (EST)Codegenepool

If you're going to pass what's been going on lately off as satire, then you should definitely try to do a better job, because it's coming off as nothing but anti-lulz. An example would be that retarded Rainbow Dash blurb that looks like it came from memegenerator.net that we had up a while ago.

Pinecone Up The Pooper Syndrome as it were...or Stick Up The Ass Syndrome perhaps. I think there may just be a ~definite~ possibility of that going on with you. Perhaps if you were to get the fuck outside and go blow the stink off yerself for a few hours you can come back with a slightly ~refreshed~ perspective on the situation.
Maybe even ask yourself ~why~ it upsets you so much to have ASSburgers painted up in such a satirically sarcastic manner. Coincidentally kiddo, a large portion of the content on ED isn't funny in and of itself...rather, it's funny because of how it UPSETS people LIKE YOU. See? YOU! You're what's funny! :D
And that's where you have me wrong. I'm not upset that it's painted satirically, I'm just disgusted at how poorly it's being done. Also, I laughed hysterically at the AS page on here. It pretty much sums up my exact thoughts on the whole mental illness in-and-on itself!

Well, doesn't that defeat the purpose of this whole page? This is the TJC we're talking about! It was designed for bitching!
ED has a golden rule in dogma: Be nothing, and brutally criticize everything else. If you're not doing this, then you're doing it wrong.

Here Is Your Tampon!

As well as a general place to notify admins of things that need doing...not things that need bitching about.
Sorry for wanting to upgrade the quality of the site -_- My point is that ED is sending the wrong message about itself (e.g. having the opinions of Uncyclopedia) and as a result, the admins need to make it clear that ED doesn't agree with what they're poking fun at on the front page, because frankly, they've done a poor job at it. The average person who doesn't know who ED is, and what it stands for could easily misinterpret the satire as ED's actual opinion.
Codegenepool 16:17, 5 January 2013 (EST)Codegenepool
Know what? Fuck that. They should be offensive or fucking hilarious. Satire is a poor medium for good content. I've already said why. Just so it's not held against me later, I found the satire actually pretty hilarious, but that's only because I'm a regular here.

Are you talking about ~just~ Team Fortress, or do you mean diaper/furry themed games in general? Cause uh...there's actually a whole freakin SLEW of 'em, have been for quite some time. Hell even I started work on one! In fact I'm the first person to have ever incorporated active bladder functions into a video game! :D
Basically I had it setup with two meters, one for "fullness" and one for "urgency" and then if the "urgency" meter spiked over a certain amount the character would have an accident (there was another meter for "absorbency"). And likewise, over time, the more full their bladder, the higher their urgency meter would go, causing more spikes until a certain point at which it would just "overload" and they'd completely wet themselves. I even went so far as to actually program in different types of bladder problems, including "urge incontinence" and "overflow incontinence" which affected how the meters worked.
I also created an absolute metric shit ton of adult baby and furry related sprites, that I passed out for free, which in turn have been used to create dozens of different games (most of them pretty cheapy/crappy). So uh...yeah...really not so unique. --Onideus 17:52, 5 January 2013 (EST)

I don't really care if they actually intervene and take her kid away or just ignore the whole thing, but it would at least "put the ball in their court" so to speak, so if she ~does~ wind up killing/hurting her kid in some horrific way the center of blame will be on them, rather than on us. --Onideus 19:44, 27 January 2013 (EST)
UPDATE!
Talked to some peeps, apparently quite a few people ~have~ already contacted the authorities over her and it seems that she no longer has custody of her kid (going by posts she's made, bitching about not having custody and not being able to see her kid). I guess apparently her and her boyfriend broke up and he's got sole custody of the kid at this point.
That may also be the reason why she got the "bright idea" to try and "fake her death", her "master plan" being to try and somehow ~shame~ us into taking down her article and all the pictures/text she posted regarding her epic child abusing ways, with accusations of "cyber-bullying" her to her "death".
Somehow in her twisted, drug addled mind I guess she blames Encyclopedia Dramatica for the fact that she lost custody of her kid (never mind the fact that she has no job, no means of supporting herself or the kid and is tanked out on "nose candy"). I think she truly believes that somehow we alone are solely responsible for all her troubles and if she can just ~magically~ get the article/pictures/posts taken down that everything will just ~magically~ be fixed and she'll instantly be able to get custody of her kid...WRONG! LOL
Why you gotta do this? Don't you understand that you're taking good paying work from some losers who could go to college for four years and get a special Certified Public Pain In The Ass license to make $10.50 an hour trolling Facebook for excuses to take kids away from their moms and give them to loving parents? As someone who was around to witness all this lulzy bullshit surrounding Jolene JRyda firsthand, I can safely say that many people who frequent the Juggalo Holocaust facebook page took it upon themselves to contact the authorities in her area out of fear for the children's safety long before this shit escalated to her faking her suicide. And as someone who has exchanged correspondence with her both as a troll and with a sockpuppet account posing as a fellow juggaslow I can honestly say that yes, Jolene blames everyone else but herself. She fails to see how she brought this all upon herself by going to a page that is known for their contempt of the juggalo lifestyle, starting an argument with a bunch of trolls, and not being smart enough to make photos of herself obviously being very reckless around her kids private. Even after the photos were brought to light she still refused to make them private. She is a fucking moron, and even now she has still refused to change her ways. Just a week ago, she posted a topless photo of herself on a Juggalette page she admins on Facebook that is vomit inducing. But you can all be sure that she doesn't have her kids, but at the same time I don't know how comforting that is when you take into account that her baby daddy is a registered sex offender. Long story short, these kids are fucked with either parent. --Wendell T. Stamps 15:32, 13 February 2013 (EST)
/mlp/ wrote a couple of books- your thoughts?
Last November and December, 4chan's pony board, /mlp/ decided to write some books. Their first book is called "Daring Do and the Jungle of Terror." Their second book is called "Daring Do and the Endless Wastes"... They are frequently bought together with horse masks. Thoughts??--Talk to me|Contribs 00:23, 28 January 2013 (EST)
Who the fuck reads books if they don't have to... fucking retards, do not want. - Mr.Jonzz 18:11, 28 January 2013 (EST)

May Ceiling Cat have mercy upon our souls... for this is a dark day on the internet. User:Expo|Talk|Tools|Email||[5] 02:13, 30 January 2013 (EST)
This needs more coverage. There's a start on the brony page but with a little love this could become big enough for it's own article. --3tails 18:52, 31 January 2013 (EST)

Stumbled across these from FB posts...
They could probably go on the "offended" page or somewhere else...I'll leave someone else to it (I hate gross shit). The dog's name is "Victory", and I guess was "saved" from some abuser that chopped off his nose and lip. I guess they're trying to raise money to help the dog and some vet is going to try some surgery to pull skin down from the snout to cover the exposed part. *gags*

Goddamnit, I am offended. Fucking dumb-ass racketeer scum-fucks passing around the goddamned hat begging honest people for money so that they can make a living taking care of a fucking Rudolph the Red Nosed Doggie. Even after all the devaluation of currency against metals you still can buy 1000 rounds of ammo for $500 - so for $1.00 I can guarantee a solution, and for half that I can give a reasonable assurance. Hell, give me a club and quit yer bitching for five straight minutes and it's possible to take care of the problem for free, just for the fun of it. Man this kind of bullshit take-care-of-the-fucking-animals industry is the only industry America is capable of - we send all the good shit across the border and we'll never get it back, not for half a trillion dollars. You sound ~very~ angry...did mommy and daddy take away the car keys or something? Yeesh...talk about angsty rage fits! Methinks there might just be a serious pinecone lodged firmly up yer pooper there! *nods*
...It doesn't seem to be good for Offended if you ask me. Try something else like a butchered dog in a market. ••GeneralNiggerson 00:20, 31 January 2013 (EST)
Nah, blatant animal abuse always trumps people who eat "pets" as a food source, although both are generally good sources of lulz if you want to make animal lovers (closet bestiality types) go all spastic and enraged.
I'd go for something a little like this. ••GeneralNiggerson 00:30, 31 January 2013 (EST)
Mmmm, I've seen worse. There's some real fucked up videos where you can see them slaughtering/cooking live dogs and cats. There's this one where it shows this family going to this grubby little 3rd world resturant and picking out the LIVE cat that they're going to eat for their meal (as if it was a lobster) and then you get to watch them dip the cat in scalding water to remove its fur, after which they kill it and start cooking it...all while the other kitties/doggies look on in horrified anguish from their tiny, cramped cages. ^__^
Mmm... sounds good.••GeneralNiggerson 00:56, 31 January 2013 (EST)
I Agree that those images of Victory aren't extreme enough for Pain Series. By the way, we actually do have a page on Animal Abuse. Those images and others similar to them would go perfectly there. In fact, I just put them on the page myself. --3tails 16:20, 31 January 2013 (EST)
