Cognitive dissonance is when someone holds two (or more) contradicting beliefs simultaneously. More to the point, it's when someone's professed opinions are challenged by FACTS and LOGIC. It is a common symptom of being wrong on the Internet.

Cognitive dissonance is often exhibited by aspies who have adopted a certain opinion, hobby, ideology or gaming console as a core aspect of their identity, and who now have to reconcile themselves with the fact that their chosen identity marker is actually shit.

It is also common among narcissistic failures whose self-image is far too grandious for the shitty dead-end lives they lead.

In general, it is the root psychological cause of much lulz, drama, flamewars and lolmilking.
