One of the most powerful tools for bettering ourselves is shame. Shame allows a person to step outside themselves and look at their choices and behavior, generally to correct missteps and mistakes and prevent themselves from making the same mistakes in the future.

For some, shame is an atrocity committed against an oppressed individual, which is rivaled only by events of equal devastation. people, shame is viewed as a useful tool for bettering oneself. For others, it is vitriolic bile meant to make you hate yourself and give up on life.
